Foursquare is a location-based service allowing users to check in throughout the day claiming their location, collecting “badges” and offer tips to others. It’s taken up a relatively small amount of social media real estate, and it’s user base is still small in comparison to the social media giants Facebook and Twitter. However, it’s gotten some press recently after reporting its user statistics for 2010: up to 6 million.

As you may have heard a while back, Google reportedly offered to buy Groupon for $5-6 Billion dollars and was rejected. As suspected, they are now developing their own similar service, Google Offers.
If you haven’t heard of Groupon yet, I encourage you to go sign up. It’s free to sign up, and every day you will be emailed a “Deal of the Day” for a local vendor, usually 50-60% off. For example, I bought a $40 gift certificate for Auntie’s Bookstore in Spokane for $20. Pretty good deal, right? Well, you’re not the only one who thinks so.
