The recent case involving an employee who was fired over making complaints about her boss on Facebook brings up some good questions about YOUR workplace policies. This is one of the first times that the National Labor Relations Board has gotten involved in a case regarding social media.

What small businesses should learn from this case:

Update your employee handbook to make sure that it does NOT restrict a workers’ rights to discuss their wages, hours and working conditions with co-workers and others while not at work. You definitely do not want to discipline or discharge an employee for engaging in such discussions outside of the workplace.
